Savings

When choosing between the metal fittings and fiberglass reinforcement, the extent of savings in case of use of fiberglass reinforcement often is calculated incorrectly. In most cases, only limitations to the comparison of the prices per running meter are done. Such calculation of course is incorrect. Transportation? Loading-unloading? Etc. The real savings are considerably longer than just the difference between the prices per running meter.

Let’s try to calculate approximately the extent of your savings in case if you use offered fiberglass reinforcement instead of ordinary metal fittings. For example, we are supposed to fill in a plate of 100 sq / m in size. For simplicity, let us assume that sizes are 10 meters of length and 10 meters of width.

Requirements for reinforcement:

Metal fittings F10, with division (step) 200mm in both directions, same as in top, and the bottom zones.

(We recall that the composite fittings when stretched are 2.5-3 times steadier than its steel counterpart. Therefore, to obtain the same stability it is possible to use fiberglass fittings of rather smaller diameter instead of steel analog).

Let’s continue simple calculation and we will find out that we need to reinforce 2000 running meters of fittings. And now we begin saving calculation in case of use of fiberglass reinforcement.

Savings due to the cost of reinforcement

Price per running meter of fiberglass reinforcement F10 - 0.88 GEL. Respectively, the price for 2000m will be 0.88x2000 = 1760 GEL

Running meter of metal reinforcement F12 - 1.30 GEL. Respectively, the price for 2000m will be 1.3x2000 = 2600 GEL

So we gain that only because of the difference in the cost of one running meter we save 2600-1760=840 GEL.

(Prices are real. At the time of loading of the text (01.04.2014) one meter of metal fittings F12 cost 1.3 GEL. Price fiberglass reinforcement F10 was 0.88 GEL).

Savings on loading / unloading.

One meter of metal reinforcement F12 weighs 0.89 kg. Respectively, 2000 * 0.89 = 1780 kg. It is quite difficult to imagine that someone will be able to load the car oneself with so many fixtures, ie there is a need in equipment or manpower to load the bought fittings and then deliver to the destination.

One meter of composite reinforcement F10 weighs 0.12 kg. Respectively, 2000 * 0.12 = 240kg. If we consider also that the purchase of composite fittings is possible in "bays", and the weight of the package (100m) is 12 kg. This means that loading and unloading from motor transport is possible without any additional expenses.

Savings on transportation

One meter of metal reinforcement F12 weighs 0.89 kg. Respectively, 2000 * 0.89 = 1780 kg. If consider that the length of fitting is 11.7 m, hence it follows that “barge” or trailer will be needed for transportation, i.e. high-dimensional transport, that as is connected with expenses.

One meter of composite reinforcement F10 weighs 0.12 kg. Respectively, 2000 * 0.12 = 240kg.

If we take into account also that the purchase of composite fittings is possible in "bays", it means that expenses on transportation in general are equal to zero, as its transportation is available by own car as well (See photo)

Savings on scraps

It is possible to buy fiberglass reinforcement twirled in 100 m length, which in our case would be the ideal option. It will be unwound and cut into 10 pieces of 10m length. In other words, absolutely without scraps and waste.

Length of core of metal reinforcement F12 - 11.7m. It means that in our case they will need shortening. In other words, 200 cores will be required and each of them must be reduced on 1.7 meters. It means that 200 * 1.7 = 340 meters of reinforcement will be lost and respectively 340m fittings should be bought in addition.

Savings during working process

As we have already noted, we need to cut 200 cores of metal reinforcement. For this we will need either a welding machine or so-called "angle grinder". Both one and the second are connected with expenses - electric power and cutting stones.

Cutting fiberglass reinforcement with "grinder" is very simple, which is much easier and less labor-intensive.

Result

As a result we gain that in the case of buying a fiberglass reinforcement you save: price + loading / unloading + transportation + work process. As you can see, overall we receive approximately 30-40% of savings. And the most important thing, we use stainless steel fittings. Non-magnetic, not heat-conducting, and in the house in the future radio and mobile phone work better.
